This is one of the most common questions we get at Royal Arenas, and it’s a good one. Nobody wants to commit to a big project without a rough idea of the timeline. The honest answer is that it varies, but we can give you a clear picture of what to expect at each stage.
From First Call to Breaking Ground
Before any digging starts, we visit your property, assess the site and talk through your requirements. This initial consultation is free and usually takes a couple of hours. After that, we’ll put together a plan and a quote. For straightforward projects, this whole process can move quite quickly, often within a week or two.
If planning permission is needed, you’ll need to factor in the time for that process too. In most cases, a private outdoor arena on agricultural land in Meath, Kildare or Dublin doesn’t require full planning permission, but if it does, an application typically takes eight to twelve weeks to be decided.
The Build Itself
For a standard outdoor arena, the actual construction typically takes one to two weeks once we’re on site. That covers site preparation and levelling, base construction, drainage installation and surface laying. We use our own equipment and manage everything in-house, so there are no delays waiting on other contractors to show up.
Larger or more complex projects, such as covered arenas, gallops or yards with multiple facilities, will naturally take longer. We’ll always give you a realistic timeline before we start so there are no surprises.
What Can Affect the Timeline?
A few things can slow things down. Ground conditions play a big role. Sites that need significant levelling or have difficult soil types take more preparation time. Weather is another factor, particularly during Irish winters when heavy rainfall can interrupt groundworks.
The good news is that we’re experienced in working around these challenges. We plan ahead, keep disruption to a minimum and make sure you can get back to normal yard life as quickly as possible.
